Locals asked to immediately submit all EG Review grievances to National Office

(Posted August 15, 2006)

Our Agriculture and Agri-Food members involved in the ongoing EG Review should bear in mind that the grievance process can be lengthy. In particular, the IDR (Informal Dispute Resolution) phase of this process has taken longer than initially expected.

The EG Review has thus far generated a significant number of grievances. Additional grievances will be forthcoming. To ensure that we put the best case forward at the final level, the National Office must examine and analyze each individual grievance.

The preparation of grievances for representation at the final level requires many resources – time to gather information from grievors, union representatives and employers; time for review and analysis of documentation; and, preparation of final level representation.

In order to keep pace with expected additional grievances, and in light of the continuing delay at the IDR phase, we have decided to push ahead with the grievance preparation process.

Therefore, we are requesting that all Local Presidents assist us in preparing these files by immediately sending in all EG Review grievance forms and all accompanying documentation including:

          • a legible copy of the grievance form (signed and dated by the grievor, the union representative

                 and the employer);
          • a copy of the letter received by the grievor (outlining the point rating) and the job description;
          • arguments submitted through the IDR process; and
          • a short explanation of what is missing from the job description.

These documents should be sent to the National Office, to the attention of Sylvie Rochon, the Service Officer responsible for this process.

For those grievors who have already submitted their EG Review grievances and accompanying documentation, nothing further is required from them at this time.

Grievors who have already submitted the above-mentioned documents and are satisfied by the result of the IDR process are asked to notify the National Office with a short note to withdraw their grievance. This will allow us to close their file.

We will continue to keep our members updated as events dictate.
