CFIA wants to start talks on new contract while failing to live up to commitments from last bargaining round

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency appears keen to begin the process of negotiating a new collective agreement and meetings have been set for Sept. 29-30.

Unfortunately Agency management isn’t anywhere near as eager to honour promised undertakings from the LAST round of bargaining.

One outstanding issue is the printing of the new collective agreement. Members have yet to receive a copy of their collective agreement as is required by article 9.02.

Also the memorandum of understanding on wash up time still remains outstanding and unresolved.

This certainly makes it is difficult for the bargaining team to go to the table in good faith when we do not have confidence that the employer will deliver on what is agreed to during negotiations.

Despite our concerns as a result of these unfulfilled promises we will be meeting to exchange demands and set the stage for the next round of talks this month.
