Due to the Conservative government’s politically-motivated attacks on the federal public service, a regrettable number of Agriculture Union members have received notices that their positions have been declared ‘affected’.

While the employer has the unilateral right under federal law to make these staffing changes, your union has negotiated provisions of your collective agreement that offer some degree of job security.

For our members employed by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, these provisions are known as the Employment Transition Policy (ETP).

For all other members, whose employer is technically the Treasury Board, the provisions are known as the Workforce Adjustment (WFA) appendix to your collective agreement.

To assist our members in affected positions, we have compiled a number of resources and sources of useful information. Canadian Grain Commission

Canadian Grain Commission Agriculture Union members employed by the Canadian Grain Commission are covered by the Workforce Adjustment appendix to their collective agreement. The WFA provisions offer some degree of job security.

Pending legislative changes to the mandate and role of the Canadian Grain Commission, introduced by the Conservative government, are currently before Parliament. As such, unlike our other employers, the CGC was NOT impacted by the Deficit Reduction Action Plan (DRAP) in the 2012 budget.
