Sign-up to support your sick leave
Our bargaining agent, the Public Service Alliance of Canada, has launched an on-line petition opposing efforts by the Conservative government to gut the current sick leave benefits of our members covered by Treasury Board collective agreements.
Employer negotiators tabled a series of extraordinary demands two months ago that would:
- eliminate all accumulated sick leave;
- reduce the amount of annual sick leave to 37.5 hours a year, subject to the absolute discretion of the employer, and
- institute a seven-day waiting period without pay before employees could access short-term disability benefits.
The petition, which can be found HERE, is part of the PSAC’s efforts to resist these takeaways at the bargaining table. It has clearly struck a nerve with members, as upwards of 25,000 signatures have already been added to the petition.
As the PSAC petition notes, no one should face a choice between going to work sick or losing pay. So, take a minute and add you name to those who support our efforts to negotiate provisions resulting in a healthier workplace
