Contract talks for a new collective agreement for Agriculture Union members employed by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency kicked off in Ottawa the last week in February.
Our bargaining team met employer negotiators face-to-face on February 26 to 28. Much of that time was spent discussing preliminaries and exchanging proposals.
Our CFIA members are currently working under the terms of a contract that expired at the end of last December. While we had hoped for an earlier start to talks for a new collective agreement, the employer was unable accommodate our requests until now.
Your bargaining team members are counting on our members’ support in their determination to push for a fair agreement. However, as was the case in the last contract round, this will largely depend on the willingness of the employer to pursue serious negotiations in a timely manner.
