Update : CFIA Collective Agreement available on-line

Parties officially sign new CFIA collective agreement

The recently-ratified contract for the Agriculture Union members employed by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency is now officially in place!

Representatives of our bargaining agent, the Public Service Alliance of Canada, and the employer officially affixed their signatures to the new collective agreement on July 16.

The four-year contract runs to next December 31. It saw annual wage increases of 1.25 per cent, a signing bonus of $650 and gains in workplace job security and discrimination protection, improved leave for family-related responsibilities and enhanced bereavement leave.

Although ratified last February, the delay in the formal signing ceremony until now was caused by the time taken by the employer to verify and correct the final contract language. As well, longer-than-usual delays were encountered waiting for the new agreement to be officially approved by the Governor-in-Council (Treasury Board of Canada).

The collective agreement will be printed and distributed to Agriculture Union CFIA members in the weeks ahead. It is available on-line HERE.

Negotiations are now underway for the next CFIA contract. As we reported earlier, the PSAC has set up a special page on its Web site that allows members to provide input into desired changes to the latest collective agreement (PSAC account is required).

Given the above-noted delays, access to the on-line form – which can be accessed HERE – will be extended until July 27 .
